For us, it all started when we decided to relocate to Brazil during one of our holidays (we go there every year as I am Brazilian) to visit friends and family, we bought a plot of land in FLORIANOPOLIS, capital of the southern State of Santa Catarina ( my place of birth). Floripa as it is commonly known, has in the last few years become one of the most popular destination, not only for the National tourist but South Americans and European tourists too. It is a place thriving with life and natural beauty, an Island surrounded by 42 white sandy beaches with all the infrastructure of modern cities whilst preserving many of its portuguese colonial characteristics. From Florianopolis there are daily flights to almost every other Southamerican countries and to Foz do Iguacu falls.
We always wanted to build a wooden house mostly due to the fact that it is cooler during the long summer. Having consider many options we came across a local Company specialized in pre-fabricated houses. After we agreed on the Project (to a design that suited our requirements) a contract was drawn and the date set to start the building. I then returned to Britain and left my friend who is today our partner in the venture, to run the project. Payments were made in stages according to the development of the project. With a full building team on site full time, the house was finished from the foundations to the internal and external decoration in just over three months.
Throughout the building we were kept updated on the progress with emails illustrated with photos which we received every week. It felt like we were there seeing our house being built.
Once it was finished we showed photos to friends and relatives and they were quite impressed. We then received enquires from some of them wanting to know of the possibility of themselves buying a place in Brazil. I suggested that the best thing to do would be to wait for when we moved there for them to come and visit us and have a feel of the place. That way they could consolidate an exotic holiday with a business trip. A friends who had the money to invest, suggested to do the other way round a business-holiday trip. She was right, because property is going fast on that part of the world and if one think of an investment there, this is the right time.
End of January I was back in Brazil with that friend. She fell in love with the place as soon as we landed. Immediately we sorted the necessary documentation needed for her to own a property there and, checked on the plot she liked, with the Land Registry Office and every thing was okay. A contract was then drawn by a local english spoken solicitor (experienced on property investment) , signed and notarized. From that moment she had legal rights on her plot and so we started the procedures for the building. With the sketches in hands of what she would like to build the Company developed her project. She then booked the start of it for September as she would like to return to Brazil to overview the work by herself (perhaps just a reason for returning there, as it all could be carried out without her presence just as we did it).
With more and more of relatives and friend wanting to own their place there it was time for A PLACE IN THE SOUTH to be born. Since then we have intermediate a few investments and everyone has gone smooth from the intention to realization of the projects.
